My knees are starting to go numb. [ she pouts, not liking that at all. the one time she doesn't want to be human with him and it's because of the fact she can't stay seated upon him like this.
she doesn't get off of him immediately. pursing her lips thoughtfully for a moment, katherine taps her fingers against his shoulders. she lifts a hand to muss up his hair, unable to help herself now that she can touch him however she likes, whenever she likes.
with her hand returning to his shoulder, she gently pushes at him. ] Lie back.
( he eases himself down carefully, trying not to jostle her too much while he lowers himself down. he's not sure if she's going to try and stay connected to him while he lays down or if she's going to move but he's fine either way.
he sighs, stretching out a bit and looking up at her quietly. )
[ katherine stretches herself over him and lies down on his chest, pressing her cheek against his shoulder. it may not be the way he wanted to hold her, but at least he's still inside of her this way. she relaxes her legs and shifts them so that she can extend them along with his. she moves a little and feels him shift as a result, but there's still the stark, physical reminder of him being there.
lifting her head, she rests her arms against his chest and peers down at him. ] Is this okay?
[ it's fine if it's not. she has an idea of how to give them what they both want, even if it means repositioning. she's the woman with numerous plans, after all. ]
[ she has a feeling she could put a pillow on his chest and refuse to look at him, and it'd still be considered good for him.
katherine leans into his touch, liking the fact that he's playing with her hair. it probably looks a mess, but she doesn't think to say that—she's starting to learn that giving him openings like that means he's going to take advantage of them.
playfully, ] Well, I'm great, so what does that make you?
Considering I got shot earlier, I'm feeling pretty great myself.
( he knows he hasn't really thought about what happened, why it happened, and processed the whole thing but what else is new? he hasn't processed a lot of things that have happened to him.
he smiles up at katherine, tangling his fingers in her hair and sighing. )
[ she can't help but roll her eyes. even though she definitely loves being told these things, it's still so strange to have stefan being so flirty and cute with her.
she's enjoying it, though. ]
Good. [ she brushes her fingers against his collarbone, busying herself with dusting his skin as if he has blood specks still on him. unlike her, he's washed himself pretty well. ] I would be very upset if you weren't feeling good after all of that.
[ all she wants is for stefan to feel better. even though she can't take away his pain when it comes to being shot by his father, she can only hope that she's made the aftermath better. he did for her.
( this would probably hit him emotionally later on as most things did and maybe he'd try and talk to her about it or maybe he'd bury it down like they both did with almost everything else.
but it doesn't matter. what matters to stefan is that she's here and she's warm and she's done so much for him tonight. he's grateful and in her debt and just...considering himself very lucky. )

[ it's a good thing she can now just fall into his chest. katherine shakes her head and makes an amused noise, and proceeds to do just that. with her cheek against his collarbone, she brushes her fingers against his shoulder, sweeping them back and forth as she listens to his very steady heartbeat. only for a very short time did it sound very faint and very, very unreliable. she wishes to only hear that steady drum beat loudly each and every time she sees him. ]
I'd say that's because you're still inside of me, but... [ she sighs, very clearly relenting. she could be difficult or she could be easy... after the ordeal he's faced, she wants it to be easy. ] Good. [ playfully, ] You make me feel great.

[ she shoves at his shoulder gently and covers her mouth with her hand, not wanting him to see how she's smiling. she feels like she's smiled more with him in the past few weeks than she has in half a century. pressing her fingers down against the corners of her lips, she finds that she can't stifle that smile.
letting her hand drop down to rest against him, she tries to appear haughty and fails. ]
I like you like this. [ she rests her hand on his shoulder again and taps her fingers twice. she lies down against him so he can't see her face and she can return to hearing his heart thump and his blood rush beneath his skin. ] You're very cute when you're being obnoxiously cheeky.

( he can't help but smile at her smile. she seems to be trying to hide it which he knows is just something she's going to do but he can still see it, sense it, and that's enough for him. )

reaching her hand to brush her fingers against his jawline, she starts to trace his face again. it's becoming one of her favourite pastimes. ]

( usually, it would be enough. just hearing that makes him smile but...well, he's had a hard night and he thinks he's allowed to fish for compliments in the hopes that she'll open up a little more. )

[ oh, good. he's not being his usual self and denying himself the pleasure of being appreciated. even though complimenting him when it's tied to her has proven difficult, katherine does know he's been through an ordeal tonight. all she wants to do is ensure he knows someone wants him as he is.
she brushes her fingers against his mouth as if she can tease that smile out. ] I still like this. [ his mouth, that is. it's one feature she'll always like, no matter what. she preoccupies herself with tracing his lips and then his chin and jawline for a moment. ]
I like your smile. [ her voice lacks any playfulness, lowering in tone and accidentally shifting into something far more thoughtful. ] It always brightens up the room.
( he's surprised but pleasantly so. he can't say that he expected that to he the compliment she gave him but he doesn't hate it either. he just...smiles underneath her fingers and shakes his head. )

[ that makes her feel very, very good. now she can call him handsome and he'll just have to say "thank you, miss katherine" and not fight her on it. it'll make her passion project of making him blush far more fun now.
katherine feigns a yawn. ] What was it again? [ it may not be a good idea to ask him to say it all over, but she's having a little fun. she rubs her hand against her eye and rests her cheek on his chest, shifting against him. ] I'm tired and very old.
[ she opens her mouth, ready to protest, and doesn't. she wonders if she should ask him to repeat his compliment, but she thinks if he isn't going to right now, then she doesn't have to start accepting his compliments just yet. she does want to hear him call her beautiful, but she knows that she isn't ready to accept it.
right now, she'll settle for him making her feel it. ]
Maybe I don't want to. [ despite saying that, she doesn't lift her head to peer up at him. she does shift her heel against him as she gets comfortable using his body as her pillow. ] Maybe I want to stay up all night enjoying your smile lighting up the room.
